Okay. Hi guys, what’s up. Welcome back to another episode of podcasts missed today. I have Paige Ruderman back on the show to join us, to talk about music and movies, Christmas style, and to rank them. And I’m very, very excited about this, where we get [00:01:00] started. I also wanted to give a shout out to Paige because she is my new editor of here now podcast.

And she’s amazing. And I’ll let her cover all of that at the end without further. Do you. Hi, Paige. Welcome back. Hey Sophia. Thank you so much for having me. I’m so excited to be back on the here and now podcast. I am so excited. This is going to be such a fun episode. I did something similar to this last year, but again, it’s really hard to do this by yourself when you have nobody to bounce a conversation off of.

So I’m excited to talk to you about this and everything we’ve seen and heard. So this will be really good and we can offer a lot of good insight about this. Yeah. Never hurts to share your opinion. Exactly. So why don’t we get started on ranking and rating some of the top 10 Christmas songs. We can just go through these one by one.

Maybe you can do them out of 10. Just give him a rating and we’ll just go from there. So, first one you have is the all-time classic Mariah. Carey’s all I want for Christmas is you. Such a classic. It’s such a classic, [00:02:00] although, and I think I said this in my unpopular opinions is that I love it. There’s just only so many times you can listen to the song.

This is so true. It is really great. You get your one go through at the beginning of the season and you’re there for it. And then the more you hear it, it loses steam. It really does. So true. So I think if I had to rate that song as a Christmas classic, I’d probably give it a six and a half out of 10.

That’s just my opinion. Yeah. I was going to give it a six too, just because Mariah Carey, I think she released it in like 1994. It has been around a while, but every year without fail, it always comes back. It’s so true. It’s the, literally the number one song on my Christmas playlist. However, I sometimes skip it and plus I’ve discovered so many other artists.

That have so many better songs. And I think they deserve to be listened to more Pentatonix their number one favorite. They’re so good. And [00:03:00] I just could listen to them on repeat. I think my number one coach to this song this year, probably a tie between hallelujah and how great thou art by Pentatonix.

It’s amazing. It’s so good. Yeah, their hallelujah is so good. I love them. I remember they were on a TV show thing. It’s called the sing off. I’m pretty sure. And I loved them ever since. So big, big fan. Yeah, absolutely. They’re so good. So talented, but I think as far as all I want for Christmas, I would probably give it a six or six and a half out of 10 for sure.

Yeah. Six out of 10 for me too. Okay. The next one I got another classic is jingle bell rock. There’s definitely very many versions of this first thing that comes to mind is me and girls. Yeah. I think it’s just a classic. You kind of have to listen to it, but especially with mean girls. Kind of putting it into a sonnet.

I probably have to give it maybe a seven. Yeah. I think the mean girls edition is an eight. That is hands [00:04:00] down, hilarious picture of the whole scene with the outfits and the mom dancing, like. Oh, it’s a shame because I think it ruined the song. In other ways. It’s just always a meme, but pretty good. It’s so true.

I mean, I had this one friend in high school who drank her sous time, mind you, we went to a very Catholic school and that scene is married, not Catholic. And so you would see him just kind of like walk down the halls and he would just do parts of the dance and I’m just like, excuse me. But it was hilarious.

I was like, this is just so, so classic, but yeah, I think I probably would give it a seven or an eight out of 10. Yeah, I would say, like, I just think it’s funny. I wouldn’t say it’s the best song out there. I think just the memories that come with it is what’s giving it that nostalgia feel exactly 100%. Oh, next is white Christmas.

Oh my gosh. Why am I blanking? I’m not going to sing. Oh, yes, yes, yes. Yes. I think for me, that song probably is an eight and a half. It’s just, it’s so [00:05:00] classic and I love Lauren Dingle’s version. She’s from Louisiana. So she was a very jazzy vibe. I love that song. I think it’s so classic. I don’t know whose version it is, but there is a piano version and it’s a guy and it’s so good.

Probably Michael bublé. I mean like when is something not him around Christmas, right. It’s true. It’s so true. Yeah. No, there’s definitely a piano version. That’s just so beautiful. And I like slow music, especially. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. What would you rate it? Probably a six. I think that there are songs out there that I like more.

I can agree. I think it’s only high on my list because it’s specifically Lauren’s version. But I think if I heard somebody else like Michael bu-bye. Not really sure. I don’t know. I don’t tend to listen to his songs. I feel like people are going to hate me for saying that, but I don’t think I’ve listened to his songs and enough to appreciate it.

But I think if I did, I might not be a fan. I’m not sure there’s like two or three songs of his that I’m like, okay, I like this. And [00:06:00] then the rest of the time, it’s just memes about him defrosting in November. And that’s my ex you know what I mean? Like, that’s it. I think me and just ruined the culture of appreciating music, because then all I think of when I listened to that song is that mean no matter what it is, but I always will have that in the back of my mind.

Like you said with me, girls, I can’t not think about all of the mediums that have come up over the last couple of years, so yeah. That’s just my opinion. Yeah. So I would say, I think that’s a six for me. Okay. I think for me, I’ll probably give it a seven, eight or so. Yeah. Yeah, of course. This one is probably going to raise a little controversy too.

It’s baby. It’s cold outside. I personally liked the Edina Menzel version. It’s a very, very good one. It’s like, it’s actually hard to tell it’s her voice, but it’s really good. I think it’s just like a sweet jazzy, low key vibe, but I liked the song. I think it’s fun. Yeah. I. Have not heard her version, so I will need to look that up [00:07:00] for sure.

Look, people are going to draw meaning out of whatever they want to draw meaning out of. I think it’s a Christmas song and I accepted at face value as a Christmas song. Exactly. Yeah. I mean, look, it’s gonna say things and whatever, but I think it’s still true. Meaning to Christmas and I like it. So I think I’ll probably give it a six, seven or something in there.

Yeah. And there are some pretty nice versions out there. I think it’s Tony Bennett and I want to say Tony Bennett and lady Gaga, but I’m, if I’m wrong, that’s going to be embarrassing, but their version is really good. I have not heard it. So I have to listen to that one. I think it was a hallmark commercial.

I’ll see if I can find it. Wait, is that the one I’m thinking of? I feel like I imagine them in like the bookstore or something. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I do like that one. That one was good. I think that was lady Gaga. Yeah. Lady Gaga. Her voice is amazing so he can sing the alphabet and I’ll think it’s good. Yeah.

So what would you rate that baby? It’s cold outside. [00:08:00] Tony Bennett lady Gaga version. Oh, I’d say seven, because I think they did a good job. Yeah. Yeah. I would say the same, but for the Edina mental version. Okay. Of course. Classic jingle bells, no matter whose version it is, you can’t butcher the song. I mean, you could, but you really can’t learn Diego’s version of course is so good.

She’s got that jazzy vibe going in the background and it’s so short. It’s hard to not appreciate it for what it is. So obviously I think I’m going to give that a nine out of 10. I think it’s a good song. This is, I think the first time we’re going to defer. Oh, geez. And that’s because when I hear jingle bells or the title jingle bells, all I can think of is a fourth grade Christmas concert.

And I can just imagine these shrilly little voices singing. Jingle bells over and over again. And I’m like, no, can’t deal with it. So I’m going to say like three. Okay. Yeah. I can relate to what you’re saying, but for me I’ve always had a good experience with Christmas concerts because we’ve always played other songs.

So I think that’s kind of [00:09:00] funny, but I honestly think it’s a classic. You can’t not listen to it, but if you’re reading it that low, like who hurt you? I’m going to have to do a little bit of soul searching on this one. Yeah. Therapy’s on me for that one. That’s so funny. Oh my gosh. I think you can’t not listen to it for sure.

So you tell me, at least you listen to it once a season. Right? I feel like growing up, I always worked retail and I don’t know if this also scarred me a little bit, but you just have your one CD track of 20 songs and you just listen to it 18 times within a eight hour shift, you know? And so. I’ve definitely heard it.

I used to hear it more when people were shopping in stores or if I was driving a lot, it was always on the radio. So I’ve definitely heard it this season, but probably not as much as I would have. Right. That makes sense. I think, well, I’m going to be honest if I’m saying I have favorites during the season that one’s not always on repeat.

As [00:10:00] much, but it’s classic that you have to listen to. I think it was going to really be bad, but then it was Halloween night and I watched the clock hit midnight. And the first thing I did was turned on jiggle. Oh my gosh. But then when we realized that it was too early for Christmas this year, and so I waited to listen to Christmas music until a little bit later, but I think it was like maybe.

Day before Thanksgiving or something, but that was the first thing I did. And I was like, okay, I got my fix 2020s kind of made me appreciate the time that we have between seasons, a lot more marches in three months. Again, if that means it’s been an entire year. That we have been in COVID and that’s scary.

So it’s December, it’s December 11th. We are not moving any further nor back at all. So we’re staying right where we are. Oh my God. You kind of shocked me there when you were like, March is in three months because you’re right. I can’t believe it’s been [00:11:00] almost a year. That’s nuts. It’s been nine months people.

Yeah. Jingle bell is classic, but for Paige, it’s not so much to, so we’ll just have to say. At this time, jingle bells is probably going to be my, my least fav, but we’ll see. See, what’s on the list. Fair enough. Fair enough. Okay. The next one is depth. The halls. Of course. I think this one’s cute. Yeah. I very jolly.

It’s true. I just feel like there’s so many verses. That I don’t know. Cause I feel like the sound just goes on and on and on. I only know what the first or second verse or something, but the chorus is catchy. Some bring us some Figgy pudding or something like that’s the one I know the most, other than the main one, but I think this is a classic, of course you have to listen to it.

It’s definitely a classic. I think it’s cute. It’s fun. There’s movies named after similar titles, so they can’t go wrong. It’s true. I think I’ll have to give this one a seven. I’m going to give this one, I’m gonna give this one a six. [00:12:00] Okay. 6.5, 6.99. I’m scared to rank them too low. Okay. Of course as the 12 days of Christmas, this is another one.

Very cute is definitely in the spirit of Christmas. I just always lose track of where I am. Oh yeah. You don’t think 12 is a lot. And yet 12 is a ton. I think one version that I listened to, I’m going to give you an exact number because I feel like the song just goes on forever, but of course they’re singing it at two times speed or something.

Okay. This one’s not bad. Cause it’s three minutes and 33 seconds. But on Thanksgiving, our tradition is usually to sing it. And I swear, I think it takes us 15 minutes to get through so long. Who did they pay to say that was only three minutes and some seconds. Cause that’s a lie. It feels like it’s forever, but they do skip the space between, so it’s just like, it’s like piled on top of each other.

It’s a funny song because it goes so [00:13:00] fast, but I mean what’s 10, like what’s, what’s it. The number 10. I only know, I know pear tree. Well, yeah, that’s number one, but yeah, you’re right. Anyway, the point is that I don’t really know the song well enough. I can sing it, but I can’t actually think. Yeah, no, but I think I’m going to give that one a six.

I’m going to say seven and it’s because it’s, um, choruses or some versions where people start to sing and they layer the song and it sounds really cool. They get, they start to get fancy with the arrangement, then I’m like, okay, I see what you’re doing there. So I think it’s fun. It’s definitely a very jolly.

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, like every one of these what’s a class, like for sure, but I think we’re going to have fun grading this next one. It’s your mean one Mr. Grinch. I’m specifically thinking of the Pentatonix version, but I don’t know if you’ve heard that one. It’s very good. I have not. But it’s just a funny song.

And I [00:14:00] feel like I’ve heard it this season more times than I ever have combined. And I don’t know why, but it’s funny. And if you really listen to the lyrics of the song, they’re calling them a Gracie black banana peel, and you have garlic in your salts. It’s kind of funny. It’s gross, but it’s funny. So I think I’m probably going to give this one, like five, six, maybe.

I agree. This is definitely one of those more interesting ones you think of Christmas time, and everyone’s trying to be very nice to each other and very accommodating. And this is totally like. Oh, my gosh, you’re a weirdo. Get away from me. And I like listening to covers of songs. I love listening to people’s take on a song and there is a punk rock version of this, and I don’t know who does it.

I’m going to have to find it. And it’s hilarious because it’s. Talking about the Grinch, but it’s this punk hardcore rock song. And that’s the perfect blend for a rock band to do a cover. Like that was the song for them. [00:15:00] Yeah, that’s interesting. You’re going to have to send that to me and we’ll link it if we find it.

But I think that’s hilarious, but I feel like there’s been more memes about the Grinch this year. And I don’t know if it’s because of COVID there’s this one kid that was saying something and then all of a sudden he just breaks into the Grinch’s voice for 30 this and then giving the schedule, the, a stoves.

It was hilarious, but there’s just been so many needs about it this season. I don’t know if that’s just me, but it’s kind of funny. I feel like Tik TOK. Can definitely be to the blame because all people are doing nowadays is spending endless amounts of time on tic-tac and then arbitrarily quoting the weirdest stuff when it totally doesn’t apply.

It’s so true. It’s so true. I don’t even have to talk. I just see tech talks shared on Instagram and things like that, but still it’s addicting. And you just want to watch them all day long. Yeah, I hear you. I have it. So you’re a mean one Mr. Grinch. If I had to rate it and I’m rating it with the punk rock version in mind, I’m [00:16:00] giving that a solid nine.

I thought it was so good. Okay, well, no, I definitely have to hear this. This is the one thing about podcasting is you can’t play without getting copyrighted. So that’s a shame, but I’m intrigued. I’m going to have to listen to this one. Next one might not be as popular. I don’t know, but it’s the last Christmas and I’ve only heard it a handful of times, but I don’t know.

What’s your take on it. I agree. This is definitely not one. I usually think of when you’re like, what’s one of your favorite Christmas songs. I don’t usually think of this one. Although Carrie Underwood big fan love her. She came out with a Christmas album this year, which. The woman, her voice is incredible.

I’m kind of surprised she hasn’t done one sooner, especially because of her very religious ties. And so I haven’t listened to it fully, but I heard a snippet of it and it was really good. Yeah. I’ve only heard like, Whoever the actual artists who sings it is, that’s the only one that I’ve [00:17:00] heard. And it was funny because the very first episode I was telling you, before we started with that, I recorded with Jamie unpopular opinions.

I was like, yeah, I don’t know what the song is. And then I heard it on the radio. It was like, I’m so stupid. Of course, I know what this song is, what am I saying? So I think it’s not one of the very first things that I think about. So I’m probably going to give us like a four or five. Yeah, I’ll give it a four just because it doesn’t.

It’s not that it’s a bad song. I just think it doesn’t stand out. And so, because you don’t hear it a lot, you’re kind of like I could do without. It’s true. Yeah, absolutely. And then the last one, I’m sure there’s many, many more that we can cover, but the last one I’m going to cover is silent night. I really like silent night.

I think it’s very pretty, it’s true. There’s a version that my sisters who are big fans of white on me, I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of them. They’re like the new one direction or like, that’s kind of what they brand themselves as Australia stupid. I know my sisters don’t listen to this, so I’m allowed to say this, but the song, the way they did it was just [00:18:00] not it.

It was not good, but somehow I still find myself listening to it. So I’m like, what am I doing? Why am I torturing myself with this? They made it jazzy ballad type song or something. It’s good, but it’s not my favorite version. I killed the ones that are slow and really honor the true key of the song.

Especially like I said, Lauren Daigle is version. So I think this is one of my favorite Christmas songs. So I probably have to give this like a seven or an eight. Okay. I agree with you. I think it’s a good song. It depends on the arrangement, but I’d probably give it like a 6.5 or seven. Okay. Yeah. But my hands down, favorite Christmas song, did it make the list?

Because now that we went through the whole list, it didn’t make it. I love Carol of the bells. Why didn’t I not include this? We’re going to ask you this on a song. Yeah, yeah. Bonus song. Because I have to tell you a story. So I was in band growing up. I play the clarinet. Yes. Like Squidward, but not because the Squidward, my freshman year of high school, it was the winter concert.

And we did Carol of the bells as the [00:19:00] whole band. And it was. The best version I have ever heard. And I liked that it was the instrumental, so we didn’t have anyone singing with us. It was just the music. The music is amazing. It’s just so good. And so that’s my hands down. Favorite Christmas song. Yeah, to go along with that, we did Carol, the bells in my.

Senior year of high school is our a Christmas concert and we sang it. So we had the boys doing the ding dong part in the Mac. We had them teacher playing the piano, and then we did the actual voice part. And it was really, really cool. And I’m telling you, we are not a group of singers at all, or just random kids who didn’t even want to be there, but it was good.

And I think that one hands down, it’s probably a 10 out of 10 for me, no matter what version it is. Definitely a 10 out of 10, my hands down. Favorite Christmas song. It’s true. And you know, you always hear the different arrangements of it, especially when they’re like really, really high and really low and Pentatonix did the acapella version of it.

[00:20:00] There was just so good. And I’m trying to think the one from home alone is on my playlist. I don’t know why the first one I found, but I think Carol, the bell is this for sure. My favorite, there is a girl on YouTube. I don’t know if she originated on YouTube or that’s just where I found her. Yeah. Lindsey Sterling.

She plays, I love her. She does the violin. She has a version of Carol of the bells. That’s really good. No, I think I heard it last year or something. It’s so good. She’s a really talented person. Yeah, I agree. Yeah. So for sure, I can’t believe I didn’t even include that one. There’s probably so many more than I just didn’t even think of, but we’ll leave you with that.

Our favorite is Carol of the bells for sure. Well now let me cover music. I’m excited to talk about the movies. I think this will be good. We’re harsh critics. I’m not going to lie. Yeah. I was thinking there was going to be multiple songs like nine, 10, 9.56. Five. Oh seven. So is that, is that us just China play favorites or is that because we truly feel that way with this songs?

I [00:21:00] think we truly feel that way and we’re allowed to have high standards. You need to have high standards. It’s true. I don’t know. Okay. Other than Carol the vows, I didn’t get a 10 for any of the songs, so I feel bad. No, I don’t think I did either. Yeah, I know. I don’t think we did. You got to work hard for that 10.

You gotta earn it. It’s true. No gold stars. No. Well, hopefully we’ll be a little, a little bit more relaxed to the movies at this point, but I don’t think we will be because there’s the story with one of them and that one’s got a low rating at this point. Anyway, the first one is Christmas Chronicles. Did you see that?

They have the second one out on Netflix. Okay. So I feel like movies is going to be where there is a couple. I haven’t seen that’s a lot. There’s a lot. I haven’t seen Christmas Chronicles. I didn’t see. But in preparation for this episode, I watched the trailers for all of them. So I can at least comment on the trailers and the trailer for Christmas Chronicles looks so good that I’m inspired [00:22:00] to watch it.

It’s Friday night right now, after we’re done. Go watch it because it is very, very good, especially now that the second one just came out. I’m not prepared to give a summary of them, but I think for me, Christmas carnivals is probably an eight out of 10, but based on the trailer, what would you give it?

Based on the trailer? I’m actually very interested to see it. So as long as they didn’t put all of the excited, I hate when they put all the fun in the trailer and then you watch a movie and you’re like, I know what happened based off the trailer, you know what I mean? But based off the trailer, I would give it a seven or an eight.

Like it looked really cute. Yeah. I think I will say it’s been a while since I’ve seen the trailer, but I think it lives up to its expectations in the movie. And I think we saw it either last year or the year before that, but it was definitely one of my favorites so far. Yeah, definitely. Of course that’s only number one.

So, so since the cranks is one of those movies that you tend to underestimate, not a lot of people know the movie, but having seen it, I [00:23:00] think it deserves an aid. Really? Yes, I do. I feel like Christmas with the cranks. This is a classic. This is like, if you haven’t seen this, what are you watching? Have you just been watching the same movie over and over and over again?

Cause this one’s been around for a while. I think it’s funny, especially the whole like free frosty and you know, when they’re like icing down the sidewalk again, I just watched the trailer. So yes, I have specific scenes in nine, but no, this is funny. And it’s the kind of one that you’re never prepared to watch it, but when you start watching it, you always end up watching the whole thing, you know?

Yeah, for sure. So I think that one deserves get eight out of 10. I think it’s really funny. I judge a movie by how long I laugh throughout and I think I laughed pretty much like the whole thing. I think the only other movies. That I did that with his anchorman and dumb and dumber. So those are very, very high on my funny ranked movies.

But I think I [00:24:00] laughed throughout this one a lot. So that one deserves an eight. Yeah. I would say I’m feeling a seven. I think it’s funny. I think there’s better ones out there, but I think it’s a good one. Yeah, for sure. The next one is a classic. It’s a Christmas story. I’ve only ever seen this, like once or twice.

It’s not something that I watch a lot. I agree. I feel like I definitely can’t remember the last time I watched this, especially not the whole thing. Yeah, but it’s not bad. I would probably rank it lower just because of that reason. So I would probably give this like a five. I was going to say the same, like five and six only because it’s not something that when at Christmas time, again, I’m not reaching for that movie.

I’d rather choose something else. So of course, like glam classic, things like that. But I think I would probably keep it lower five or six. So I feel like everyone’s seen it. At least once, but then you’re good. Absolutely. Of course. A Christmas Carol. Yeah. We were talking about the [00:25:00] animated Jim Carey version that one’s scary.

I’m not going to lie. It is scary. I remember watching that for the first time, because it came out. I think it came out in like 2009 or something. Yeah, it is frightening. It is. And you think it’s like a Christmas story. Children are gonna watch us. I would be petrified if I was a child and I watched that.

My sister talking about that all of the time, I’m still scared. I mean, look, it’s cute. It’s a good movie, but the animation is so realistic that it’s terrifying. And I was talking with my mom and because of where we live in Philly, and I don’t know how far you are from this too, but they have the Dickens village and the city where it’s a literal walkthrough.

Of a Christmas Carol and it’s really, really cool. They have animated robots or something doing them parts and whatever. I feel like that will most less terrifying than the movie was, but I’m trying to think. Was there a live action version of a Christmas Carol? That’s a good question. Because the Jim [00:26:00] Carrey one always comes to me.

See, that’s the problem you find. You’re like one version of something and you always go to that and you never find out if there’s any more. I don’t know if there was a live action, if not, Disney’s probably gonna make it because what have they not made a live action version of yet? No, I don’t think there ever has been there’s one from the 1908, which obviously we have not seen well.

Okay. Of course the Muppet Christmas Carol one came out. But I don’t really remember off the top of my head if there ever has been currently, there’s a Christmas Carol one coming out this year. I haven’t heard of it yet. Neither have I, which is I’m surprised about. So, no, I’m always thinking of the Jim Carrey one, like that’s my number one.

There’s also a Mickey mouse version. If you haven’t seen that one yet. It’s so sweet. It’s so sad. I know Tim. I know. I think that it, because it’s so frightening, I’m probably going to give that a seven. I would say for a movie, the quality is [00:27:00] amazing. I don’t know why, but I just get so frightened watching it.

And for that reason I don’t watch it. So I’m going to split it. I’ll give it a six because I would have given it a five. So I’ll split the difference. I’ll give it a six, as I say, that’s probably pretty generous on my part too, but that’s okay. But the story I genuinely do love the story of it. It’s just like the adaptation is not so hot.

So, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Next one is Christmas vacation. Another classic. Yeah. Please tell me, you’ve seen it. This is the one when they’re in the car, right? They’re in a car, the national Lampoon’s Christmas vacation. Oh, the big tree that they cut down. And I don’t know if you’ve seen the office to Todd packer who is in that he plays the uncle, I think.

And it’s just all the family comes and Chris says, it’s hilarious. It’s really funny. That is hilarious. I imagine I’ve seen it, but I haven’t seen it in a while. So I watched the [00:28:00] trailer. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. They looked really funny. Like even though it’s dated, it looks like it would still be funny. You know, it really still is.

And there’s this one part where he’s trying to hook up the lights or something and ends up electrocuting himself. And it’s very funny. It’s like the cover, the cover of the movie box or whatever. But I think because this is one of my favorites, I’m probably going to get this an eight or so. I definitely know that this is a cult classic.

People love this movie, so I’ll give it, I’ll give it a six based off the trailer. And just because for the life of me, I can not remember, well, you have a pile laying list right now, movies. You need to watch, you know, it’s okay. We’re in COVID I’m not going anywhere. It’s very true. I’m going to have a bunch to watch.

It’s so true. Yes. So eight six for you. That seems pretty good. Of course. It’s a wonderful life. And I’m going to yell about this one, but of course, of course I’ll get to that in a second. So [00:29:00] you’ve not seen it. I have not seen it. Okay. It’s black and white, right? Yeah. I have not seen it. I’m going to say I, this is going to sound really bad.

Not that I wish I haven’t seen it, but it’s not all that. It’s very sad. I don’t want to spend my Christmas being sad. I really don’t. When I tell you that I have friends that love this movie, all they do is talk about the opportunity to watch it. I’m like I haven’t even seen it. And the amount of times people talk about it makes me not even want to watch it.

It just feels so sad. I don’t know. Why would you, I pretty sure you wanted to commit suicide. Why would you do that? Like, that’s really sad. So I don’t know. I think I’m going to give this one a five or a four. Maybe lower. I’m going to give it a four just because I’m like, I don’t even think I want to watch it.

No, it’s just so old. And it’s just, yeah, it’s not worth it. Yeah. Unpopular opinion probably. But yeah. Write us and tell us your thoughts. It’s true. Yeah, it’s [00:30:00] true. Hit us up on our Instagram, flooded DMS with yelling at us about this, but that’s okay. This next one is of course the Christmas classic elf, but as always, I have a story for that one.

I said this last year and my podcast was episode, but for whatever reason, Elf just does not like deaf and hard of hearing people. They choose not to have closed captions on any one of the movies, no matter where you find it, no matter where you try to watch it, they have no close captions. And so I love the movie.

Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s hilarious. It’s probably one of my favorite movies. But there’s no closed captions. And so I always, no matter what, without fail, have to pull up this app. So I play it at the same time as the movie. It’s very tricky. All my classmates in school, you see how me? Cause I was quoting the back from watching the movie or whatever saying, Oh, no.

I know, but why, why just can’t put it on the closed captions? So I [00:31:00] think if I was rating it solely based on that, I would literally give it a three, but because I just love it so much. I’m going to give it a nine. It’s a 10. I can completely understand the frustration if I couldn’t participate in that, I would be frustrated too.

Yeah. It’s just hilarious. The mediums, the quotes, the throne of lies. Everything about it is just. So hilarious. It is my favorite Christmas movie, a lot of merchandise that you see. I cannot remember where we were, but I just saw a shirt that was just like, bye buddy. Hope you find your dad. I was like, that’s such a classic line.

You cannot. And I think my brother has a sweater that says like Santa, I know him. And like, Classic. So I’m going to change my writing to attend. I think I am. I don’t know. And not this way either way. Cause I can understand it. Doesn’t check all the boxes. I just think every character, every actor selected for the role, they just really cast did that [00:32:00] movie so well.

And I just remember the scene. Okay. I have to bring it up. Talking about music, baby. It’s cold outside. There was a scene when it was buddy and Oh God, the girl’s name is escaping me, but I know she’s played by like Zoe de Chanel or something when she’s in the shower and she’s singing. Cause like we all love our shower concerts, me included.

Well, yeah, I can’t hear them, but yeah.

No, no, I love it. You’re right. Yeah. Everyone has their moments when they’re listening to music and you think you’re all alone. And can you just imagine what it would be like to have someone just start singing with you? When you’re completely by yours, like I would probably die right then and there not only is a strange man in your bathroom, but a strange man dressed in an elf costume that just makes it even worse.

I can imagine. So, yeah, I think that it’s just [00:33:00] brilliant. It’s such a good movie. That is one movie that if they ever did come out with an elf too, I would be so interested in seeing it. See, I have a hard time with movies that have such a good first movie that they come out with. The second one, I just don’t want them to ruin it.

And I’m scared, frozen too. I saw solid. It just wasn’t as good as frozen line and. I dunno. I just feel like they ruined that. I guess the only exception to that would be like star Wars, but that’s like a true sequel. Right. Whereas like alpha where’s the plot holes maybe. Cause they kind of started the family at the end of the movie.

Right. So what’s next. So I don’t know, but I think I would be all over that if it came out. I agree with you about the sequels. Cause mama Mia too. I love mama Mia. I just think mama Mia is a classic. Yeah. And I felt like mama Mia too. Got all hyped up because of share. Yeah. And it was okay, but it definitely was not as good as the first.

I mean, I kind of agree. I’m going to say that. I think the second [00:34:00] one was so good on me because of Lily, James, like she’s such a good actress and the music was 10 times better than the first movie. That’s fair. Yeah. But I think that there’s just some movies you just cannot make a sequel to. And I feel like Alpha’s one of them don’t touch perfection.

It’s true. Why bother? But make sure you put the closed captions on the movies. Whoever’s listening. You’ve been warned. I know it’s so true. What the heck? It’s not fair, but anyway, I think we said we’d done our due diligence. That one, but of course the next one has to be polar express. Yes. This one again, another, I don’t want people to come for me.

You can come for me. It’s okay. I don’t at me. I don’t love this one. I think it’s boring. I do too. And I’m not going to lie. The animation frightens me too. It’s very, very realistic. And it’s very frightening. It really is. It’s just kinda like sometimes these characters they get in these really scary [00:35:00] situations and I’m like, what child in the world is going through this?

Nobody, the child gets on a train on Christmas night to nowhere. And then like, Sarah, if there was like a scene, I’m pretty sure he was on the roof of the train and the trains like, Oh yeah, yeah. With like that hobo or something like that. That’s terrifying. Yeah. Yeah. So I think for that factor, it’s a cute movie.

Good plot line gives you some good inspiration for Christmas parties or something. But I think I’m going to have that one, like at a five or six. Yeah. I was going to say like a four or five. So I think we’re pretty pretty even there. Yeah. I agree. I think I’ve lost it. Maybe two or three times when I was younger.

I’m good. If I don’t want to deceive them. I agree. Yeah, no, thank you. But of course, this next one is Arthur Christmas. And you said you saw it right? I’ve seen the trailer as of this afternoon, but this one was very similar to Christmas Chronicles where I hadn’t heard of it. I watched the trailer and I’m like, Whoa, how have I not heard of this?

And I really want to watch it. [00:36:00] You know what I mean? Like, I felt very inspired just watching the trailer. I would give this an, the trailer itself was an eight. It looked hilarious right up my alley as far as humor. So it looks funny, but I can’t comment on the movie. Yeah. So I think as far as the movie goes, I probably give the eight or nine.

It’s a very, very cute movie. It’s very inspirational. And it’s funny. And I think if you watch it, it looks like it would be for kids, but it’s really not. I think it’s very diverse in age and things like that. So I think it’s definitely an eight for sure. Yeah. This is definitely one going on the list that while I’m home have some free time, I’m going to make sure I see it.

No, you should. Absolutely. I’m pretty sure it’s on Netflix, but don’t quote me on that. We just, I know we just got Netflix back for. For the first time in a while. So I’m catching up on all the things, but yeah, I think that one definitely ranks high. Oh, my list, of course. The last one we might come up with a bonus one.

If you yell at me again, say that your favorite is not on the list. [00:37:00] No, my favorite was on the list. Don’t worry. Okay, good, good, good. Okay. So I think the last one is Santa Claus with Tim Allen. One, two and three. They’re all very good. Yeah. Yeah. I really love this one. This is classic Christmas to me. This is like, if you haven’t seen this, this is what I’m definitely encouraging because who hasn’t seen alpha already not to go back on that topic, but I really liked the Santa Claus.

I thought Tim Allen was hilarious. The boy that played. Charlie was great. I just thought the whole first movie was such a classic and they did not disappoint when they did the sequels. It’s true. And I think the one that often, at least for me, gets overlooked as the second one where he actually meets Mrs.

Claus, but that one’s so sweet and I think it’s really good. And I think my favorite is definitely the third one where they have Jack Ross come in and that’s always really funny. To like, have them come back and whatever. And then of course she has a baby, so that was really fun. But I think this one for music classic.

So I’m going to give it a nine. [00:38:00] This is definitely a classic. The first one came out in 1994. I love all my fun trivia because I had it because I looked up all the trailers. So that came in helpful, but I’m pretty sure it came out in 1994. And just, I just remember the scene where he’s like putting on the jacket and you’re like, you can just tell it’s going to be symbolic.

It definitely feels very nostalgic for me. And I think what’s so funny and it kind of speaks to all of the movies is who is choosing these elves. Like I swear. Santa’s relatively stays within the general concept. Sometimes they go a little rogue, but the elves man, you have no clue what elves are going to be like in any new Christmas movie.

It’s true. It’s so true. It’s so true. I mean, I say like super tall in this one. You’re like humans. They’re like just regular humans and I’m like, wait a minute. Bernard was the L yeah. He’s like, help me [00:39:00] help you write that one. That was, that scene is one of my favorites, but yeah, he’s funny. He was in cat in the hat.

That’s another side note. Yeah. So he’s Abigail Breslin. That’s her brother. I don’t know why. I know that, but he was in cat in the hat was one of the twins and he was really scary. I hate that movie. So. Yeah, but it’s in the movie in Santa Claus. He’s got, he’s very funny. I love he’s like type a personality or something.

It’s very good contrast, but yeah. Who picks you out? So really giant on one hand, how much can you defer a storyline about Christmas, but then on the other hand, it’s like put the elves that’s, that’s the difference? I just, I believe it in the writer’s room when everyone’s like, what do we change? They’re changing the elves.

I mean, the costumes are usually pretty similar throughout where the pointy shoes and the ears and whatnot, but yeah. There’s size differences between them. Yeah. I think it was Arthur Christmas. When I was watching the trailer, they weren’t even like real, they were fake animals, so maybe I’m wrong, but yeah.

Interesting [00:40:00] thing to make note of after watching all the movies. That’s true. I think we covered them all. Are there any other movies out there under the sun that I did not cover? Not classics. I do believe that in the last couple of years, Netflix in particular has come out with some really good ones, but they’re more, it’s true.

I mean, like we just watched Noel. Oh, that was so cute with Anna Kendrick. It was so sweet. I mean, it got a little dark without spoiling. It did get a little dark. I’m not going to lie, but I think that one was really good. And you have the hallmark movies. And I said this before with Jamie on the first episode, hallmark movies, they’re the same plot with just different characters each time.

But somehow they’re still very good, especially when Candice Kevin beer eyes in them. She’s one of my favorites on hallmark. She was DJ Tanner, right? Yeah. Yeah, she was. And then of course, princess switch is on Netflix. That one I thought was really, I think Vanessa Hudgens. Yeah, that one was really cute. I liked that one.

I do too. And I think they just came out with a second one and I’m excited to watch [00:41:00] it. Apparently there’s a third one involved now, so I’m very confused, but there are some other newer movies that I think can be classics for sure. Yeah, I agree. I think there’s one that’s really cute. I don’t think it will become a classic, but if you haven’t seen Holly date yet, that one is really cute.

It’s new. It just came out this way. Okay. So I haven’t seen it yet. I’m excited to watch it, check it out. I’m pretty sure it’s on Netflix. Cool. We’ll have to update you guys with our ratings, but thanks. This episode covered pretty much everything. So just know our favorites. We’re going to end with this favorites, Carol of the bells.

And I’m surprised that we finally agreed. I know that’s interesting that we both picked the same thing, even though our ratings were a little, all over the place. That’s true, but I think we did a pretty good job. We were pretty harsh, but maybe our next job can be having like a movie critic podcast or something.

I don’t know. Yeah. I think that’d be so fun. Maybe even starting a podcast. Can you imagine just like sitting around, getting paid to watch, do all day and rating on a podcast. That’s amazing. I would love to [00:42:00] do that. If Netflix just happens to be listening to that, set us up with that, we’ll be down for sure.
