by | Mar 17, 2020 | Podcast

Hey guys! What’s up and welcome back to another episode of hear and now podcast! Today is the third episode of the Lenten podcast episode series and we are talking all about trusting in God. I think this is a necessary topic for all of us right now.

Also, happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope you have a fun and festive day even if you can’t celebrate and party like usual.

For today’s verse of the day, I am going to actually read the Irish blessing prayer. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

My classmates and I sang this at our last choral concert and it makes me so nostalgic to even just read it now. So shoutout to you guys, I miss you so much!

I also wanted to thank the sponsor of today’s episode Port Dermal. Port Dermal was founded and formulated by my friend Maddie, who is also a dermal therapist. So like I said today we are talking about trusting in God. If you’ve been keeping up with the internet lately you’ll know that a huge pandemic is not only taking over just America but most of the world. And yes, I am referring to COVID-19. Even the name sounds scary. I mean, my city is just bare. I live in a generally busy area, but i’ve never seen anything like it. You could have ever predicted that something like this would have happened? I mean, who’s with me on this one? I really don’t know how I am personally supposed to respond. It almost feels like you are waiting for the next update to come and tell you what to do next. It’s just so crazy you guys. Schools are closed through the end of the month at least and moving to online. Gyms are closed, movie theaters, restaurants, non-essential places. It feels so strange. Like, what is tomorrow even going to look like? We just have to wait and see! And now schools are closed for a while, so people have to figure out their new schedule and adjust to the changes. It’s just so crazy. But I know you are probably tired or scared of hearing it over and over again, which is why I am just going to jump right in and chat about the main topic for today – Trusting God.

Humans have the natural tendency to doubt and fluctuate. Your emotions are probably a rollercoaster ride right now and it’s hard to see past what is going on. But the Bible says lean not on your own understanding. God is trying to communicate with us through that verse. We can’t understand all that is going on. And even if we do, our understanding has blinders on. We can only see part of the picture. Our emotions cloud the things we should be seeing and our knowledge can be limited.

And it’s easier said than done to just trust in God. I mean, how can you wholeheartedly give up and surrender to trust when things just seem to be upside down? All things like worry, anxiety, depression, sadness, impatience, hardships, evil are not things of God. God is all things love, light, patience, perfection, eternal. He is the one thing in our lives that is constant and will be constant forever. I saw this pretty cool quote – it said “you can’t trust God and worry at the same time.” You might be thinking a few things right now. First, what if I am trusting God and I am still worried? That’s normal. I trust in God and I have anxiety sometimes. But here’s the deal. You can’t place all your trust in God, but because we are human we are still going to worry, have anxiety, depression, sadness, impatience, experience hardships, etc. It’s just part of the human condition. But, trusting in God fully will take away that element of the unknown. He’s saying, “I got this.” And we are saying, “Thy will be done.” God will never lead you somewhere you can’t handle. You might think that you are in the worst time of your life and are angry at God for leading you here. But here’s the deal, What if everything you are going through is preparing you for what you prayed for? What if? What if you were just to fully trust and surrender your human will to God and let Him take care of the rest?

So that’s where another question might come in. “Okay, Sophia, you’re saying just trust, but how do you even do that? If I say I trust in You, is that enough?”

I can’t be the judge of that for you. Each person’s relationship with God will look different and will be different. I might just be able to say, Jesus I trust in You and fully believe it, but you might have to work physically to show God you trust in Him.

Not only does He want you to trust Him in the hard times, but in the good ones as well. He is always there waiting for you to come and trust and just be. The best way to start trusting are just by the simple words of Jesus I trust in you. Repeat it over and over until you start to believe it. It’s very powerful. I am going to link a blog post of Bible verses to repeat to help you grow in your trust in God.

But for now, I want to end with a prayer. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Father, I put my trust in You, for You Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You. Lord You have never let me down and I know that You never will let me down because my life so far has been a testimony of Your greatness. I pray that I remain faithful to You, just as You are to me. I declare that my trust in You will not waver. I declare that my faithfulness to You will be strong at all times, Amen. (Psalm 9:10). Jesus I trust in you.

Thank you guys so much for joining me this week. Please stay safe and I will be continually praying. Feel free to reach out if you ever have any prayer intentions or just want to chat.
