by | Mar 10, 2020 | Podcast

Hey guys! What’s up and welcome back to another episode of hear and now podcast! Today is the second episode of the Lenten podcast episode series and we are talking all about forgiveness today. But before we get started I wanted to highlight and chat about a few things!

First, I wanted to introduce a new segment that I am going to be including in my episode! Each week I will put up a question box on my stories and I will answer one of the questions you guys ask me! Or you could always DM me a question, but yeah! When I’ve been talking about hearing loss you guys have really been enjoying me talking about it both on here and on my insta stories as well! So starting next week, ask me questions and I will include them here and give you a shoutout too!

Second! I’m bringing back my verse of the day! But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 I love that verse. So good.

Last thing I wanted to chat about is today, March 10 is my youngest sister’s birthday! So I wanted to wish her a happy birthday. She’s the best. Happy Birthday girlfriend! Love you..

Let’s get into the episode.

So like I said today we are talking about forgiveness. This is always a touchy topic. I mean, what does it even mean? So you say, yeah sure I forgive you and you move on. Is that really how it works? Not really. Forgiveness can be both surface and really deep. You could be holding onto things that happened years ago and it might be causing you stress and you might not even realize it. Or maybe on the contrary, someone bumped into you and didn’t say sorry. Either way, forgiveness of yourself and of others is so important.

Let’s start with the first one, forgiveness of others. Forgiveness is talked about several times in the Bible. We are all born with original sin and because Jesus chose to die on the cross for us, that was His greatest offering of forgiveness. We can’t keep holding on to things that cause us to be bitter. I’ve seen in my own life how holding onto things has caused me stress and anxiety. Here’s an example, but after years of holding onto this particular grudge I decided to just say “I forgive this.” I just felt this release because I didn’t realize that the anxiety and stress that I had been feeling inside was due to that. I will still remember the situation, but just because I say I forgive it doesn’t mean I have to forget it. But I’m no longer letting it take precedence over my life. I have healed from it and I have moved on.

God gave us this ability to forgive. I was having a conversation with someone about forgiveness. They said just because you forgive the person does not mean that you are giving them ability to do the same thing again. Each time you forgive you build your inner strength. But you should also keep respectful boundaries. You might forgive someone but then you should not allow them to walk all over you. Boundaries are so important and are necessary for healthy relationships. I’ve heard the saying that just because you can forgive doesn’t mean you should. This is actually not true. Forgiveness is a really hard thing to admit or do. You don’t have to do it immediately. You can take time to process a situation. Like I said, I took years to forgive a situation. We always need to give people the gift of forgiveness but obviously doing it with healthy boundaries.

Now, what about forgiving ourselves? It’s a hard thing to do. You make a mistake and you obsess over it for weeks. We all need to start forgiving ourselves. It’s a hard thing to do. But again, just saying you forgive yourself will take off so much unnecessary weight that you are carrying. Self-care doesn’t just have to be skincare, it can be spiritual too. Allow yourself time and then forgive yourself. It’s not always going to be easy, but it will change your life.

Before we end I wanted to leave you with two bible verses and a prayer. 1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Psalm 103:10-14 – He has not punished us as we deserve for all our sins, for his mercy toward those who fear and honor him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

In the name of the father, son, and holy spirit. Lord, we come to you today to ask you to help us forgive. Whether that is forgiving ourselves, forgiving others, or forgiving you, we ask you to help us this day. Our father….

amen!

Thank you guys and I will you see you next week!
