Creating Systems – My Top 5 Organization Tips

by | Feb 18, 2020 | Podcast

Hey guys! Welcome back to Hear and Now Podcast! This week I am talking about one of my favorite topics – organization!!!! I’m bringing you my top tips for being organized.

Before we jump into the episode make sure you follow me over on my socials, which are always linked below. Without further ado let’s just jump right in!

So, I’m bringing you my top tips for being organized. Organization was not always my strong suit, but I realized in middle school that you can’t live a good life unless you have it under control. As time went on I learned the importance of just having your stuff together, whether that’s in school, work, your room, your house, whatever. You can’t be perfectly organized in every aspect of your life. I’ve just found systems that work for me and things that I can implement in my daily life to contribute to my overall organization.

So the first tip I have for you is to create a system. I’ve heard this word come up a lot and it’s been very important. Creating systems can have multiple meanings to it. The most effective one I’ve seen implemented in my own life is having a system for doing my work. I write out my scripts on this particular day and that on this day I record, edit and upload. I have a standard show notes template I use so I don’t have to think up new ones each week. For my blog posts I have a plan of what I want to write about. When I was in high school I had a filing system to stay on top of my assignments and papers. Do what works for you! Nowadays, things are done electronically. So utilize the automated systems! Schedule out your posts for social media ahead of time, or automate your calendar to send you reminders for events! I’m starting to take advantage of productive things on my phone and computer! So that was number one, create a system.

Number 2! Write it down! This can be digitally or on paper! I find myself remembering things when I have somewhere to reference it. Sometimes I’ll make a list on my notes app on my phone or in my planner to go back and reference. This one is pretty straightforward.

Number 3. Schedule everything. This might sound weird, but if you schedule your tasks in like appointments, it will hold you accountable. I schedule in my workout time like an appointment, lets say from 2-3 pm on select days so that I hold myself accountable. Same thing for recording and writing. Make it on your schedule!

Number 4! Block scheduling. I was first introduced to this concept by Jordan Page of Fun Cheap or Free and it’s been so helpful to me. Each day can have different blocks – so from 7 am – 9 am is your wake up, breakfast, morning routine time. From 9-12 is my morning school work, so maybe I’ll dedicate time to doing one or two classes in this period. Then from 12-1 I’ll have my lunch break, catch up on work emails, etc. 1 to 4 is my second class period, and so on. Jordan has a really great video on this, so instead of me boring you with the details of my daily schedule I’ll leave it up to her to explain. So, now instead of having an hour by hour breakdown of my day, I can do all I want within time blocks so each is dedicated!

Last one! Number 5. Microwave minute tasks. This is something that Jordan Page introduced too. You don’t realize how long a minute is until you actually are waiting for something to end. For example, one minute planks at the guys feel like eternity, same thing with making food in the microwave. So, Jordan talked about microwave minute tasks. Set a timer for a minute to see how many things you can do – usually you can manage to clear off an entire counter or sweep the floor. Once you get the motivation going you won’t want to stop!

So, those were my top 5 tips for organization! I hope you guys can start to implement them into your life! Thanks so much for listening to this week’s episode! Don’t forget to subscribe, leave a rating or review, and follow me on my socials! See y’all next week!
