All the Books I’ve Read this Year

by | Nov 8, 2019 | Life

Hi friends!

I wanted to do something fun and round up all the books I’ve read this year.

I am just now getting back into reading avidly, since I have some free time on my hands! I am going to include a summary, links to all the books, and x/10 rating on the book! . Some of them are going to be books I read in school or just for fun!

Alright! Here goes.

January and February

Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens // Rank: 7/10

This book takes place during the French Revolution and has parallel settings in Paris & London. The story follows the peasants and upper class of the mid 1700’s. It’s a highly comprehensive book, since Dickens uses vivid and descriptive imagery, while also keeping to the language of the times. I recommend this book for high schoolers and beyond.

March, April, and May

To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee // Rank: 9/10

TKAM is a very popular and renowned book, winning the Pulitzer Prize. Harper Lee describes the struggles of living in 1930’s Alabama. The novel is lighthearted, following Scout’s journey as a young child, despite dealing with topics such as racism. The heroes in the story bring political topics into the light and deal with them with grace. Harper Lee’s novel is recommended for all ages, especially middle school and up.

***During January-May I was working on writing my senior thesis paper, so I did read quite a few books, but I won’t link them here. Shoot me a message if you are interested in reading this!

June

The ABC’s of Finding a Good Husband, by Stephen Wood // 10/10

Laugh at me all you want for reading this book, but I still am stunned by all that I read in this book. I got this a graduation present from one of my devoted friends. I was on vacation and this was a light and easy read. This book was absolutely phenomenal. If you are a Christian, this book is eye-opening to the truth of marriage and relationships in our day and age. Granted, this book was written back in 2001, so topics of social media and changing face-to-face relationships aren’t covered, but I still recommend. There is also the alternate version, the ABC’s of Finding a Good Wife, but I’ll leave it up to the guys to read that one. 😉

July

I honestly can say I don’t think I read any books? but I don’t entirely remember. I think I listened to a LOT of podcasts while laying by the beach and pool. That still counts, right?

August

When Life Gives You LuluLemons & Devil Wears Prada, by Lauren Weisberger // 10/10

When Life Gives you Lululemons (WLGyL) was the first book I read by Lauren Weisberger. I absolutely fell in love with the way she writes her books. WLGyL is so entertaining but definitely for a more mature audience. There are really no deep messages or stories involved, just detailing the lives of women living in an upper class society. I loved WLGyL so much that I scrambled to the only book stores on the island to find Devil Wears Prada! Thankfully I did! The characters are so funny and while it’s not a relatable story, per se, Lauren writes in a way that you can feel like you are there. Again, it’s for a mature audience in my opinion. I have yet to see the movie and I can’t wait! 10/10 recommend.

September

No books read during September, focused on writing my book more!

October

Last Night at Chateau Marmont & Revenge Wears Prada, by Lauren Weisberger // 10/10

I am telling you, I’m a true Lauren Fan! I finished these two each in a week because they are THAT good. Last Night was the story of an up and coming musician, and the story of his wife who lived a “normal” life. When fame hits, Brooke is faced with a lot of struggles. It’s a really great novel and Weisberger takes care in properly depicting the lives of famous people. The other one is the sequel to Devil Wears Prada, and takes place ten years after her original book. The story follows the original characters and how much their lives changed after encounters with the “devil herself”. 10/10 recommend both as well, and again, I say they are for more mature audiences.

November and December

The Singles Game & Chasing Harry Winstonby Lauren Weisberger

Again, true fan! I am just starting Chasing Harry Winston, but I can guarantee they will be worth it! So I’m saying 10/10 recommend anyway. I think that I’ll finish these books fast!

If I do, here what’s on my must read list for the rest of the year:

The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Jenny Han

Always and Forever Lara Jean, Jenny Han

Thanks so much for checking out my book list! I hope that it inspires you to do some reading. It’s a good exercise for the mind, even if it is a fiction book!
